Rhinoplasty, also called nose reshaping or nose job, involves the removal or augmentation of cartilage in order to adjust and refine the patient’s nasal profile. More than 250,000 patients requested this treatment in 2010. The ASPS notes that more and more men are pursuing cosmetic nose surgery. In fact, 25 percent of nose reshaping procedures were performed on men. This finding fits with the overall trend of more male patients requesting various cosmetic treatments, including Botox injections, chemical peel and facelift.

#3: Eyelid Surgery. The third most popular treatment in 2010 was eyelid lift surgery, in which excess skin and/or fat is removed from the eyelids to eliminate drooping upper lids and baggy lower lids. In addition, a large number of men pursued liposuction surgery to achieve a flatter, more masculine chest appearance.

#5: Tummy Tuck. Tummy tuck was the fifth most popular procedure in 2010, according to the ASPS survey data. Also known as abdominoplasty, this procedure, which involves the surgical removal of excess stomach skin and the tightening of abdominal muscles, was pursued by more than 115,000 patients. The ASPS notes that both women and men requested abdominoplasty, and the percentage of male abdominoplasty patients increased in 2010.

The ASPS concluded its report on 2010 surgery trends by noting that the popularity of plastic surgery is likely to increase throughout 2011 and beyond. This is because a large portion of plastic surgery patients are retired individuals who are financially more stable than many other segments of the population. As the retired men and women notice unwelcome signs of aging on their faces and bodies, they are likely to pursue various cosmetic surgery procedures in order to turn back the hands of time and improve their overall well-being.
